Some questions to consider:

  • what types of resource are described by the metadata presented by the registry?
  • what are the relationships between resources?

1. Browsing the CORES Registry

The Web interface to the registry can be accessed at http://cores.dsd.sztaki.hu/

Registry index page

The main index page provides access to summary lists of resources grouped by their type (e.g. Element Sets, Application Profiles, Elements etc).

Each entry in those summary lists provides a "Details" link which displays all the metadata about that individual resource.

Spend a few minutes browsing the registry, exploring the relationships between resources described. In particular note that:

  • a metadata Element is part of exactly one Element Set;
  • an individual metadata Element may be "used" in several "Element Usages".
    See the several usages of the Dublin Core Element "Title", for example
  • within an individual Application Profile, the Element Usages may "use" Elements from multiple Element Sets

Note that the registry provides the capacity for (registered) users to annotate entries within the registry.

2. Searching the CORES Registry

The registy database can also be searched - though the searching is unsophisticated, providing keyword matching on the text of literal values associated with the resource.

Try a few searches, such as "Element" associated with keyword "date"; "Element" associated with keyword "dublin" etc.

If the search results are unexpected, use the browse functions to review the resource descriptions to investigate why certain resources have or have not appeared in your result set.
