The CORES project will provide a forum to encourage sharing of metadata semantics. CORES intends to create consensus on the means to share semantics to enable existing standards to "play together" in an integrated, machine-understandable Semantic Web environment. In order to achieve this level of interoperability, CORES will support applications re-using and adapting terms maintained by key organizations and standardisation initiatives. CORES will provide a Standards Interoperability Forum bringing together key figures from major standardisation activities to discuss the practicalities of cross-standard interoperability. The goal will be to discuss the feasibility of building semantic bridges between metadata standards within the framework of the Semantic Web CORES will host a Registry of core vocabularies and profiles enabling projects and services to declare their usage of standards in schemas based on a common model. In order to encourage uptake for methods of declaring "profiles" of application-specific usage, CORES will build on the work of SCHEMAS, which defined a model for declaring such usage in Resource Description Framework (RDF). CORES will promote use of this model by holding a hands-on "profile-writing" workshop with implementers. Maintained and hosted by: UKOLN |
